Insulation is an essential building material and a great way to decrease your carbon footprint and energy bills.
Choosing the right insulation can be a challenge with so many types out there. One of the biggest factors that'll influence your decision is the R-value, which determines the warmth - the higher the value, the warmer it keeps your home.
PIR boards, made of polyurethane foam, are versatile and used in millions of UK homes. They are half the thickness of traditional insulation making them great for loft insulation where you need as much storage space as possible.
Made with glass fibres which have been bound together to form an effective insulation solution. They have an A1 fire resistance rating and are easy to install making them ideal for most applications including walls, ceilings and floor insulation.
Made from various stone materials which have been shaped into rolls and slabs for various applications. They are known to be the best acoustic insulation out there, with excellent soundproofing & non-combustible fire ratings. These are ideal for commercial properties, home theatres and noise-sensitive spaces.
Made of multiple reflective layers, it prevents heat loss year-round by reflecting sunlight away in summer and retaining heat in winter.
Designed to be thicker on one end than the other, they create a slope to drain water away from the roof. These are great for flat roofs as they prevent water from pooling.
These are specially designed for flat roof applications. Manufactured with flat roofs in mind, these boards have a high compression ratio of over 150 kPa, unlike standard PIR boards. A high compression ratio is crucial in a flat roof system in order to avoid damage caused by movement from compression in the insulation.
At UKFR we have flat roof boards designed for a variety of installation methods. This includes foil faced boards for mechanically fixed systems, tissue faced boards for fully adhered systems, bitumen faced boards for torch on applications and Rockwool Hardrock for flat roofs that require A2 fire ratings and excellent acoustic insulative properties.
Warm roofs are an excellent addition to any building and you can be sure they will protect your property from moisture and damage when these flat roof boards are installed with a vapour barrier.

Building and roof insulation serve many basic functionalities such as allowing optimal air and heat circulation around your home. If a house is properly insulated, it retains warmth and stops cold from entering.
Insulation is also great in the summer, preventing warm air from outside from entering the property and keeping the cool air from escaping.
Yes! Considering the weather in the UK and its seasons, you can never be too sure of the weather. Investing in roof insulation has various benefits and very few risks.
When installed correctly, roof insulation lasts for 35-40 years depending on the status of the roof.
The R-value determines how much warmth the insulation provides, and will vary across different types of insulation and thicknesses. The UK is cold most of the time, so you’ll need a higher R-value to keep your home warm and energy bills as low as possible.
There are many factors which determine the level of fire protection including material composition, thickness and surface finish. The European standard EN 13501-1 classifies insulation to the following levels:
A1: Non-combustible
A2: Limited combustibility
B: Combustible
C: Minor contribution to fire
D: Moderate contribution to fire
E: Major contribution to fire
F: No classification
