Description

This is a high-strength, solvent-based bonding adhesive specifically designed and manufactured to withstand the temperature extremes of flat roofing installations. Perfect for bonding ClassicBond to the roof deck and vertical surfaces.

Required for the edges of the EPDM sheet when used on timber deck with water-based adhesive in the centre, or onto the whole deck for other decks such as tissue-faced insulation

Suitable for a range of surfaces, e.g. timber, brickwork, metal, PVC & concrete.

Please Note: It is not possible to reposition the membrane once stuck down using contact adhesive.

Application Up-stands:

  • Use a 4" mini roller to apply contact adhesive to both the up-stand and rubber roofing membrane.
  • It is also good practice to secure the membrane to the deck perimeter with a 150mm width strip of contact adhesive. This will stop the membrane from lifting due to shrinkage.
  • Ensure that the contact adhesive is touch-dry before rolling the membrane onto the substrate/up-stand.

Application Non-Permeable Deck:

  • Using a roller, apply contact adhesive to both the deck and the underside of the membrane evenly. Ensure that the contact adhesive is touch-dry before rolling the membrane onto the deck approx. 5-20 minutes.

Please Note: The 1L and 2.5L tubs are unbranded due to ClassicBond not supplying these sizes. They will be in metal containers wrapped in shrink-wrap for delivery. This allows less wastage on smaller jobs as our smallest tub would be 5 litres, which is enough for 7-10sq.m of coverage - this is more eco-friendly and allows for lower costs.

Questions & Answers

ClassicBond vs Skyguard

Both of these are made from EPDM rubber, ClassicBond is 1.2mm & 1.5mm thick whereas SkyGuard is 1.0mm thick. This means the SkyGuard is for use on outbuildings, sheds and any other building not covered by building regs as this requires an EPDM that is 1.14mm thick as a minimum. ClassicBond can be used on all roof types.

ClassicBond vs Firestone

There isn’t much difference between the systems ClassicBond or Firestone now known as Elevate, both are EPDM membranes that come in similar thickness and are installed in a very similar way. They both have BBA certificates and life spans of 50 years. So there isn’t much between them, we here at UKFR prefer the ClassicBond system as it is slightly thicker than the Elevate for the standard system and as an overall system is slightly more affordable.

What is the guarantee on ClassicBond?

ClassicBond EPDM holds a 35 year BBA certificate and a life expectancy of 50 years. If you want to get a materials guarantee we also offer training with our partner company that once trained and qualified each roof can get a 20 year materials guarantee. You would also be on our list of approved installers and if any customer needs any work in your area we pass these leads to you.

How to install classic bond EPDM

ClassicBond is simple to install, it can be installed onto a variety of surfaces and detail sections. Please see our video here on how to install onto a timber deck.
