There are two types of acoustic insulation - soundproof insulation and sound-absorbing insulation.
Soundproof insulation is used in cavities between floors, ceilings and internal walls to prevent sound transmission from airborne and impact sounds. Typically, the thicker the insulation, the better it will be at blocking the sound.
Sound-absorbing insulation is used to control the sound within a space, reducing echo and reverberation for more peaceful environments. These are typically used in areas where there are multiple conversations happening at once, like a restaurant or workplace.
Acoustic insulation is made from high-density materials, which are often mineral wool, glass wool or polyethene foams.
Rockwool is made from mineral wool, also known as stone wool, rock wool, and slag wool. This non-combustible, volcanic rock-based mineral fibre is shaped into rolls and slabs to fit into walls, roofs, or floors.
