Description

The EcoRoofing EcoSlate is an artificial roofing slate using a state-of-the-art formulation which provides a strong, pliable and attractive roofing option for a wide range of building applications. This self-bonding roof shingle has the unique flexibility for use on ridges and hips. There is no need for custom-made accessories because every slate can be cut and set to any angle or size you need.

The installation process is very simple as the slates are fitted straight onto plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), no roof battens are required, a standard breathable underlay and then nailed down. Nails should be 16mm hot-dip galvanised annular ring shank with a minimum 5mm head. Nail by hand ONLY, do not use a nail gun. Nail position guides and spacers are pre-marked. It’s that easy!

The process gives a stronger, more pliable membrane and creates a roof that is wind and weather-resistant, and provides better insulation even at low pitches.

Eco Slate installation is incredibly cost-effective – it takes less than half the time of traditional slate, all without any damage, breakages or waste associated with real slate.

Over a period of time, the slate will bond together, forming a solid membrane on your roof. This process has no specific timescale as it relies on sunlight, and therefore bonds faster during the summer months than the winter months.

For full details, please download the Eco Slate Installation Guide. Eco Slate documentation, certification and test reports are available below.

Questions & Answers

What are the roof slates made of?

Eco Slate is made from 95% recycled plastic and a small amount of naturally occurring additives. Eco Slate is the only man made slate manufactured in the UK that is both recycled and recyclable.

Are the EcoSlates lightweight?

Eco Slates are extremely lightweight in comparison with most other options. On average, a square metre will weigh less than 12kg.

How are the slates installed?

Depending on pitch the number of slates you will need will vary from 16 to 19 slates per square metre, however for all normal situations the installation procedure is the same. Please see the Eco Slate Installation Guide.

The slates seem very flexible, how do they hold up in strong wind conditions?

Wind is not a problem. Eco Slate is tested to BS 5534 : 2014 on a board roof for its resistance to uniformly distributed loads, in other words, the wind and snow likely to be encountered. The slate has also been independently tested for wind speeds up to 110mph with no water infiltration or discernible damage or distortion.

What type of nail should I use during installation?

Relevant size 15mm length and 5mm head, stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanised nails are recommended.

Does the colour fade?

Over the 50 year warranty expect a variable colour change; however the UV inhibitors ensure they are extremely fade resistant.

Do you sell caps and ridge slates?

No, Eco Slate is flexible so can be used for all the hip and ridge areas.
