There are two types of insulation for flat roofs - cold deck and warm deck.
Cold deck insulation is used on older flat roofs and loft spaces where the structural deck is exposed. They require a ventilated air gap above the insulation to prevent condensation issues.
On the other hand, warm deck insulation is far easier to install, as it’s placed directly underneath the waterproof membrane, keeping the entire roof structure warm without needing ventilation.
Because of this, warm deck insulation has become increasingly popular with modern flat roof systems.
It depends on your requirements. PIR boards like Celotex, phenolic boards like Kingspan Kooltherm K107, or mineral wool like Rockwool RWA45 are excellent options.
