The material Kingspan insulation is made from varies depending on the product line.
The Kingspan Kooltherm range is made from a fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic core, with a thermal conductivity between 0.019 - 0.022 W/mK.
Whereas the Thermaroof range is made from a fibre-free rigid thermoset polyisocyanurate (PIR) core, with a thermal conductivity between 0.022 - 0.027 W/mK.
All Kingspan insulation, except for the K118 Insulated Plasterboard, which combines insulation, dry-lining, and vapour control into one board, requires a vapour barrier. This is installed on the warm/internal side of the insulation.
The R-value is used to measure a material's resistance to heat flow. If the R-value is higher, the material has greater thermal resistance.
On the other hand, the U-value is used to measure the rate of heat flow through a building element such as a roof, floor, or wall. A lower U-value indicates that the building element is more effective in preventing heat loss or gain.
