Description

The ClassicBond 6 inch cover tape is used as a cover strip where joining two pieces of membrane where there is no overlap and a 3" splice tape can not be used.

Installation Notes:

  • The EPDM surfaces to receive the tape must be dry, clean and free from dust and dirt. Wherever flashing strips are to be adhered to any other EPDM rubber the surface must be primed with ClassicBond Rubber Primer and allowed to dry (touch dry).

Bonding to other surfaces:

  • The tapes and splice tape can be used to join the EPDM rubber membrane on to both TPO and PVC roofing systems. The tapes are often used to repair damaged TPO and PVC as a cost effective alternative to replacing the whole flat roof. When joining the rubber membrane to uneven or granular built up roof surfaces, such felt or asphalt, we recommend the use of a termination bar and water cut off mastic (water block).

Questions & Answers

ClassicBond vs Skyguard

Both of these are made from EPDM rubber, ClassicBond is 1.2mm & 1.5mm thick whereas SkyGuard is 1.0mm thick. This means the SkyGuard is for use on outbuildings, sheds and any other building not covered by building regs as this requires an EPDM that is 1.14mm thick as a minimum. ClassicBond can be used on all roof types.

ClassicBond vs Firestone

There isn’t much difference between the systems ClassicBond or Firestone now known as Elevate, both are EPDM membranes that come in similar thickness and are installed in a very similar way. They both have BBA certificates and life spans of 50 years. So there isn’t much between them, we here at UKFR prefer the ClassicBond system as it is slightly thicker than the Elevate for the standard system and as an overall system is slightly more affordable.

What is the guarantee on ClassicBond?

ClassicBond EPDM holds a 35 year BBA certificate and a life expectancy of 50 years. If you want to get a materials guarantee we also offer training with our partner company that once trained and qualified each roof can get a 20 year materials guarantee. You would also be on our list of approved installers and if any customer needs any work in your area we pass these leads to you.

How to install classic bond EPDM

ClassicBond is simple to install, it can be installed onto a variety of surfaces and detail sections. Please see our video here on how to install onto a timber deck.
