Discover UKFR’s full range of green roof substrates available as either 25kg or standard cu.M bags. Perfect for both domestic and commercial properties, these roof substrates allow life to grow to its fullest.
Biodiverse substrate mix: A blend of organic material which allows any green roof to grow lush and healthy. Best used for brown living roofs such as biodiverse and wildflower.
Extensive substrate mix: A free-draining, low-nutrient and moisture-retentive medium made from 100% recycled material. Best used for thin green roof systems such as sedum and wildflower mats.
Intensive substrate mix: A nutrient-balanced and moisture-retentive growing medium made from a compost, soil, lightweight aggregate and crushed brick mix. Best used for heavy-duty roof gardens where shrubs and trees are grown.

The benefits of a green roof are almost endless, ranging from extending the life of your roof and retaining rainwater to reducing CO2 levels, purifying the air around you, lowering noise pollution, and fostering natural wildlife habitats throughout your home.
Extensive green roof substrates are used on green roof systems with a depth of less than 200mm. This is typically used for sedum mats and wildflowers.
On the other hand, intensive green roof substrates are deeper and used for roof gardens (depth greater than 200mm). These are suitable for shrubs and trees.
